Action plan for national open access strategy approved

Now that swissuniversities and the Swiss University Conference have approved the action plan drawn up in 2017, the national open access strategy for Switzerland can be put into practice.

At the beginning of 2017, the swissuniversities plenary meeting approved the external pagenational open access strategy, which aims to render all publicly funded publications from Switzerland accessible open access by 2024. In order to realize this vision, swissuniversities compiled an external pageaction plan (pdf, 1.32 MB) in conjunction with other partners (e.g. Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) and the university libraries) in the course of last year. This was finally approved by the University Board of the Swiss University Conference in February 2018. The goal of the action plan is to help universities implement the national open access strategy by highlighting various measures.

In February 2018, ETH Zurich brought into effect a revised version of its open access policy, thereby confirming that it will support the objectives agreed in the national strategy with due regard to the needs of its researchers.
